In response to the huge demand for communication professionals in the 3C (communication, computer, and consumer electronics) and EE (electrical and electronic) industries at home and abroad in the new century, Yuan Ze University established the Department of Communication in 2001, the Master’s Program in the Graduate Institute of Communication in 2002, the In-service S Master’s Program in 2003, the Doctoral Program in 2004, and the Center for Communication Research in 2005. Since 2006, the undergraduate program was expanded to two classes and became part of the College of Electrical and Communication Engineering. In 2018, the Department was renamed to the Department of Electrical Engineering (Group B).

The Department has an excellent academic culture and currently has 18 full-time professors with extensive experience in theory and practice. After moving into the Far Eastern Telecom Building donated by the Far EasTone in 2009, the Department has been greatly improved in its teaching space and laboratory facilities, and has also implemented the Ministry of Education’s Teaching Excellence Program to create a quality learning and research environment. In addition, The Department has been accredited by the Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET) for 3 years from Aug.1, 2019 to July 31, 2022, so that our students can be more in line with international standards and have a high competitiveness for further study and employment.

Most of the students continue their studies after graduation and excel in their academic performance; in the job market, they are popular in the 3C and EE industries because of their expertise. In terms of research, the Department has been awarded the National Integration Program for Telecommunications and its Center for Communication Research has been selected as a “Top Research Center” by the Ministry of Education. In addition, The Department has abundant resources from the industry, government, and academia, and has a strong research culture, with the top-ranking National Science and Technology Council program and SCI papers among the homogeneous departments in Taiwan.

In order to nurture technology professionals for the new century, the curriculum of this Group is designed to match the industrial context and development trends, guiding students to the following major areas. Currently, all areas of study are being developed in the direction of integrating with the current development of the industry, making the teaching and research of the Group more current and diversified. In addition, the the Center for Communication Research led by our professors is developing related research and integrating with modern technology trends to make graduates more competitive in the job market.

The Department has abundant teaching and research resources and invests a lot of money every year to enrich the laboratory facilities. A brief description is as follows:

1. E-learning Laboratories - Each lab is equipped with dual-core computers and LCD monitors for the purpose of broadcasting teaching.

Basic: Electronic circuit teaching lab, multimedia computer network classroom, basic communication lab

Advanced: Basic frequency integrated circuit teaching lab, communication network lab, RF integrated circuit teaching lab, microwave circuit and measurement lab, antenna fabrication and measurement lab, intelligent communication and measurement lab.
2. Key Feature Laboratories

Only a few universities in Taiwan have this advanced equipment for the microwave measurement and reflection-free laboratory, and the communication network laboratory has established the first wireless network test system based on GSM/GPRS base station in Taiwan with the assistance of Far EasTone.

3. Research Labs - Each professor has a dedicated lab for conducting research projects and supervising students’ theses.

4. The Departmental Reading Room is a place where students can study for their assignments and prepare for exams. Many students study here to prepare for graduate school, and many of them get good results.
